Frequently Asked Questions

How soon will I feel relief?

During the treatment process, most people with chronic headaches notice changes and feel relief within the first month. Herbs for acute headaches will also be provided.

Some of the changes include, reduced frequency and/or pain intensity of headaches, and reduced or eradicated next day fatigue, brain fog, neck and shoulder pain.

As time goes on, it just keeps getting better.

How long is the treatment process?

Most cases take 4-6 months to resolve.
Some cases take longer to resolve or require long term management.

How does Chinese herbal treatment differ from pharmaceutical treatment?

Pharmaceutical medical treatment approach is one-size-fits-all, does not address underlying causes and in most cases, must be used life long to manage headaches or the pain comes rushing back.

Chinese herbs and natural therapies are customized to each patient's individual needs by addressing the symptoms of headaches as well the underlying causes, allowing for long lasting results.

When people stop daily migraine medications, they often experience rebound headaches, but Chinese herbs do not cause that side effect. In fact, it is very rare that Chinese herbs cause any side effects.

After using Chinese medicine for a while, most headache suffers can stop using it because the headaches cease. In some cases, a headache might come up and usually can be quickly relieved.

Do I need to take Chinese herbs everyday for the rest of my life like pharmaceutical migraine and cluster headache medications require?

Most cases resolve and do not require long term management.

After finishing treatment some people will experience an occasional headache that can be managed with acute care herbs taken only as needed.

In rare cases, ongoing management is needed.

Do I need to stop taking my headache/migraine/sinus medication before taking Chinese herbs?

No, you don't need to stop your medications right away. In fact it is inadvisable to do that because you may wind up feeling much worse due to rebound withdrawal. Give the herbs some time to work, then Ms. Aiyana will coach you about how to communicate with your prescribing doctor who can safely titrate the medication down.

How Many Times Per Day Are Herbs & Supplements Taken?

Herbs which address the underlying root cause are taken twice per day.

Herbs for acute headaches are taken through the day as needed. Ms. Aiyana will discuss an acute care strategy with you. Over time, as headache intensity reduces many people only need to take 1-2 doses of acute care herbs.

Supplements such as vitamins and minerals are generally taken once per day.

Attractive Young Woman

On our first meeting, Juliette was extremely welcoming. She explained how long the treatment would take were and also suggested some minor dietary adjustments. After the first session and after following Juliette’s dietary advice, I quickly noticed a vast improvement in my migraines.

Over the course of time, my doctor and I began reducing the amount of migraine medication that I was taking, until I was finally completely off of it. And still I have not had a migraine.

Juliette was both kind and professional at every session. It has truly been a blessing and a relief to be migraine free for these past 7 months. I highly recommend anyone who suffers from migraines to make an appointment with Juliette Aiyana, L.Ac., Herbalist.”

Elegant Female

After years of having migraines weekly, with light and sound sensitivity, along with chronic sinus problems my patient reports being so pleased that after only two months of treatment she only had three migraines. The last one was so much more manageable and and she did not have the three day fatigue and brain fogs that usually ensues which she says "Is (a) huge (win)! Her sinuses are much better no longer needing to constantly clear her throat during work Zoom meetings any more. She said, "I am in awe and tell all my friends, you have got to try this!"

Initial Consultation

In this comprehensive 1.5 hour long meeting with Ms. Aiyana, you'll learn about the root cause of your issue, how how it can be healed or managed according to Chinese medical principles and what self-care techniques you can use.

The patient-practitioner relationship is created as she engages you in discussion about how to integrate changes in your diet, sleep and exercise habits.

She will review how your social, family and work life may be affecting your health and talk with about mind-body relaxation techniques.

Her practice with pediatric patients includes creating a rapport with babies, kids and teens with warmth, smiles, playfulness and ease.

As your physical and spiritual health develop and change so will your treatments. That dynamic progression of energetic evolution manifests as healthy balance in body, mind and soul.

Integrative medicine is necessary for some cases. Most natural therapies can be safely combined with important medications such as synthroid, insulin, antivirals and more.
